Taking Medication Wisely

  • Do not increase the dosage of any medication. The old saying, "if one is good, two must be better" is NOT TRUE of medication!
  • Do not decrease your medication because you feel better without first calling and speaking with your home care nurse at United Home Health Care of Shreveport at (318)-798-7777. Your nurse will speak with your doctor about your desire to decrease your medication. Your nurse will then explain your doctor's instructions to you.
  • Do not take any additional medications. INCLUDING anything sold over the counter, without first calling and speaking with your home care nurse at (318)-798-7777. Many over-the-counter medications, including vitamins, laxatives, and antacids, MAY REACT with your prescription medications and result in health problems.
  • Do not double your dosage if you forget to take one dose of your medication.
  • Do not share your medication with your family or friends. NEVER take someone else's medication.
  • Do not mix alcohol with your medication without first asking your home care nurse or doctor.
  • Do not take any expired medications. If your doctor stops one of your medications, THROW AWAY the remaining pills. Expired medications may harm you.
  • FOR ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING YOUR MEDICATION PLEASE CALL US (318-798-7777)
